Our Juniors program attracts athletes from several area high schools, including Orono, Wayzata, Minnetonka, Mound Westonka, Blake, Breck, and Benilde. Over the past six years, our team has achieved remarkable success, sending several boats to the US Rowing Youth Nationals and winning the NWIRA Juniors Points Award. Many of our LLRC graduates have advanced to row at the collegiate level, thanks to the solid foundation they built with LLRC. Our alumni have gone on to row at prestigious institutions such as the University of Wisconsin, Syracuse, the University of Washington, Williams, Dartmouth, and Boston University, along with schools like the University of Kansas, UCLA, Marist, the University of St. Thomas, Bryant, George Washington, Drake, Tufts, Kansas State, Creighton, and the University of Portland!
During the winter months, we provide indoor training for rowers to concentrate on conditioning and prepare to be in top shape for when the ice melts and they can resume rowing in Minnesota. Our juniors train indoors at the former Orono Public Works Facility (2700 Kelley Parkway, Orono) under the expert guidance of Coach Aidan Hennessey. The training emphasizes cardio conditioning on rowing ergometers, alongside strength and core work.
We offer training in one-month sessions to accommodate rowers returning from winter sports! Signing up for January, February, and March will yield optimal benefits!
Once the ice is off Long Lake, and the water and air temperatures meet our safety standards, we transition to on-water training! This on-water training takes place from the south shore of Long Lake, specifically at Birch's on the Lake Brewhouse & Supper Club located at 1310 Wayzata Blvd. Join us at one of the premier rowing clubs in Minnesota and experience the joy of rowing in your own backyard in the west metro on Long Lake!
